The recent IndiGo flight cancellations have caused major disruptions for thousands of passengers across India.
To help affected travelers, the Western Railway zone has announced multiple special trains and extra coaches on existing services.
Railway Public Relations Officer Ajay Solanki urged passengers to take advantage of these services and reach stations early to ensure smooth boarding.
Special Trains and Extra Coaches
Western Railways has planned the following special services:
Sabarmati-Delhi Special Train: Runs on 7th and 9th December at 10:55 PM, reaching Delhi the next day at 3:15 PM.
Sabarmati-Delhi Sarai Rohilla Special Train: Starts on 7th December at 5:30 AM and reaches Delhi Sarai Rohilla at 11 PM.
In addition to these, extra coaches have been added to regular trains to accommodate more passengers:
AC 3-tier coach added to Ahmedabad-Thawe Junction train
2nd Class AC coach added to Swarna Jayanti Rajdhani Express
Sleeper coach added to Sabarmati-Jammu Tawi Express
Passengers are advised to reach the stations at least 30 minutes early due to possible traffic delays.
Why the Flight Disruptions Happened
The civil aviation sector has faced massive disruptions recently, mainly due to IndiGo’s shortage of pilots and crew following the implementation of revised Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL) norms issued by the DGCA last year.
This has caused cancellations, severe delays, and rescheduling of flights, leaving passengers stranded for hours at airports.
Many travelers have complained about long queues and inadequate support during the disruptions.
Airport data highlights the scale of the problem:
Hyderabad Airport: 69 IndiGo cancellations (26 arrivals, 43 departures)
Delhi Airport (GMR): 86 cancellations (37 departures, 49 arrivals)
Ahmedabad Airport: 59 cancellations (35 departures, 24 arrivals)
Kolkata Airport: 41 cancellations (21 arrivals, 20 departures)
The DGCA has issued a show-cause notice to IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers, holding the airline accountable for “significant lapses in planning, oversight, and resource management.”
Meanwhile, IndiGo has apologized for the disruptions, stating that it operated slightly above 700 flights connecting 113 destinations during the affected period.
